A practical QA checklist for e-commerce stores — from search and cart to payments, GST invoices and mobile checkout.
A bug on a brochure website is embarrassing. A bug in an online store costs you orders. Here's the checklist our QA team runs before any e-commerce launch.
Product discovery
- Search returns relevant results for misspellings and partial words.
- Filters (price, size, colour, brand) combine correctly and can be cleared.
- Out-of-stock products are clearly marked and can't be added to cart.
- Product images zoom properly and load quickly on mobile data.
Cart and checkout
- Quantities update totals, taxes and shipping instantly.
- Coupons apply only within their rules and can't be stacked unintentionally.
- Guest checkout works, and returning customers can log in mid-checkout without losing the cart.
- Address validation handles PIN codes correctly.
Payments
- UPI, cards, net banking and wallets succeed, fail and time out gracefully.
- A failed payment never creates a "paid" order — and a successful one never gets lost.
- Cash on delivery limits and charges apply correctly.
After the order
- Order confirmation emails, SMS and WhatsApp messages send with correct details.
- GST invoices generate with the right tax breakup.
- Cancellations, returns and refunds update stock and the customer's account.
Performance and security
- Pages stay fast under sale-day traffic.
- Admin areas are protected, and customer data is never exposed in URLs.
- The whole flow works across Chrome, Safari and Android browsers.
